Brunei Darussalam emerged as the winners of the 2nd Borneo Cup
Petanque Championship after finishing
the three-day tournament with four gold and three silver medals, it was
announced yesterday at a prize
presentation ceremony at the Petanque Court of the Hassanal Bolkiah
Sports Complex.The Sultanate accumulated a total of 15 points against Sabah, and 18 points against Sarawak, and claimed gold in the Men's and Women's singles event, the Men's doubles event and the Mixed double event.
Sarawak finished second with six points on the board against Brunei and 12 against Sabah, whilst Sabah had to settle for third in the three-team tournament after managing only three points against Brunei and nine points against Sarawak.
Elsewhere, in the 3rd Borneo Inter-Club Petanque Championship, which was held at the same venue simultaneously from Oct 12-14, Brunei were also triumphant after filling up the podium in Division 1.
During the hour and a half long final yesterday, BSB 2 beat BSB 4 13-9 to claim the honours, whilst BSB 5 ended the tournament in third and Saratok A finishing fourth.
However, in Division 2, it was all Sabah and Sarawak, with Bintulu 4 winning gold, followed by KK 7 in second and Sko and Samarahan 1 in joint third.
The guest-of-honour Datin Paduka Hajah Adina binti Othman, the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, presented the prizes and certificates to the winners.
